Welcome to the "I Heart YA" Giveaway Hop, hosted by For Those About to Read, Fictional Distraction and Michelle Madow. Be sure to check the linky list below the entry form to enter the rest of the giveaways!
For this giveaway, I just happen to have a new, paperback copy of Procession of the Dead by Darren Shan, the first novel in his series The City. Shan is well-known as the best-selling author of Hell's Horizon.
This is a twisted, mysterious, gritty coming-of-age story about a power-hungry protagonist, Capac Raimi, who "arrives in the City determined to make his mark in a world of sweet, sinister sin. He finds the City is a place of exotic dangers: a legendary assassin with snakes tattooed on his face who moves like smoke, blind Incan priests whom no one seems to see, a kingpin who plays with puppets, and friends who mysteriously disappear as though they never existed. Then Capac crosses paths with The Cardinal, and his life changes forever."(Description from Barnes and Noble).
School Library Journal deems this a "crossover" novel: an adult book with teen appeal, or a book from an author who is known for YA fiction. From the article there: "Older teens who feared they had outgrown Darren Shan can breathe easy again: he knows how to spin a brilliant story for more sophisticated readers just as much as he knows how to enthrall legions of middle-school horror fans." I would still categorize this as young adult, but mature young adult.
So enter to win below, if you dare! Only entries received in the Rafflecopter form will be counted.
